    SS NCO tunic

Hey guys, I just picked up my first salty SS tunic. It has a few possible field repairs and is in decent shape. It is missing the lining. It has 2 belt hook holes on both sides front and back. The stitching all looks period. Just wanted your opinions on my first SS tunic. Thanks!

Fantastic tunic! You might want to find a replacement for that missing collar tab rank pip.

Thanks guys. It is a shame that the liner is missing but it is all part of the tunics story. I am very happy with it. I might try to find a replacement pip. i was looking around but dont see many originals for sale.

Mark, I will be leaving it as found. History made it this way so that way it will stay.

Do you think the insignia is original to the tunic ? I mean the sewing looks realy nice but the tunic looks way more worn then the insignia. In fact it looks like it was washed 1000times thus the liner has gone away. Further there is so much sewing thread worn away that its hard to think the insignia has survived relativly intact.
For example look how the thread as worn away just above the arm eagle, leavin the eagle intact.
Same on the underside of the collar, thread hat was used for collar construction is worn away leaving the thread of the collarpatch intact although it sits even higher.

                        Again, just my opinion.

Jens, I do believe the insignia is original to the uniform. It matches very well in person. The tresse on the shoulder boards matches wear with the collar. Also, as it was upgraded throughout the war, the upgraded insignia would have less wear than the tunic. I think this may be the reason for the tabs etc, to look nicer than the tunic.

                            Hi Skyviper,
That's a great looking tunic! I really like the packets, they really give it a crazy character.

I did a little digging in one of my junk boxes and found a pip that is a close match.

Shoot me a PM if you think it would work.

                              Guys
Jacket and insignia are not original! Fake eagle - really bad application - modern repro tresse on collar and on the shoulder boards, so boards are most likely reproduction as well. Runes are out of shape, way too fat.
The liner of the tunic has been removed to cover up the tunic is a complete fake imo. At best its an heavily worn + violated original jacket with atificially aged fake insignia.
