One thing that bothers me is that they both look brand new...no wear or tarnish...the early ones though are tough to tell from repros when aged.

I bought one of those "shiny," tin jawless skull 20 years ago for 5 bucks.

I agree. Had they used the right material, it would be very, very difficult to tell apart from the real thing.

On the other site, Derek Chapman posted originals of these, as have others. Robin Lumsden has done so with great detail and expertise. This badge lacks crucial detail, and its general appearance diverges from the original. The stick pin is wholly over the top.

The two TKs in this thread are both copies......but it is noteworthy that Assmann did in fact produce a stickpin like the one shown here. It's in the Assmann catalogue. Skulls were worn in the 20s and 30s by all and sundry, including circus clowns. Hundreds of different 'SwJ' skull crosses and badges exist. Not all German TKs are military in origin. Buyer beware!

Dear Colleague, I stand corrected. You are right, of course. I just looked at my copy of this document. The cult of death in Germany resides, in part, in German romanticism and the depiction of same was to be found in many, many settings.
