TK patch original

I mostly collect US insignia from WW2 to early VN eras, but the other day this patch came in a lot of US ABN patches. Unfortunately it looks like it was cut from a larger patch.

I just wanted to confirm it's a period piece and not a repro. Any idea why someone would cut it out? Any help with establishing a value would also be appreciated.
