Looking for an SS Germanische Leistungrune (SS Sports Badge)

    Hello Gents,

Try as I might, I've never had any luck to find this elusive SS Germanische Leistungrune (SS Sports Badge). I'm looking for one, and try as I might it has been years now. Either fakes abound or I'm just too slow! (this is not an advert)

Anyone has one in a collection? And how do you guys keep with that patience? With such small numbers being awarded, the chances are just so slim!

    Cheers,
    Mil

Technically it is called the SS Proficiency Sports Badge, not the same as the SS Sports badge which I mentioned early (which is in cloth).

This is mostly due to the fact that in the 90's/00's, two types of fakes (the "cut short" and "Niemann" types) flooded the market.
When no one is able to tell what is good and what is wrong, prices stay "low".

Many medals and awards are still in the dark more than 70 years after the event, and many crooks made their business on fake models, especially in the 70's and 80's.

About the current prices, the problem is always the same : some collectors have too much money, and are - in my opinion - overpaying their stuff.

I also dream to add one of these to my collection one day. Can anyone tell me if there's more than one accepted type and what the price aproximatly are?

                    Cheers Thomas

Yes - I would like to know this as well.
Vince, maybe you can educate us?

yes, i'm fearing that it may inflate the prices to have so many collectors "interested in it" (openly), even more if collectors are not ready to pay at least 4000 to 5000 euros (auction prices are far more higher).

You can find small variations in the GL (nota : the recently discussed GL with a "strange" pin to me is not a variation), but again those are not important.

What is important is to understand the flaws of the fakes, which i discussed ad nauseam on a dozen of topics with pictures and infos... Free for all may i add.

Hi David, I thought they had always been popular...
I see Gerhard Bahr's SS Proficiency Badge recently sold, I assume it was on Vince's list.

                            Cheers,
                            Michael

                              Hi,

correct, i must point out that the "name" written on the back may also be (more probably imo) the name of the US/allied soldier who "liberated" the badge. It seemed to be a very raw writing, i'm not sure that a Waffen-SS would be happy to damage his rare badge for which he had to sweat a lot.

On the eMedals website the text was :

A rare fine quality manufacture Germanic Achievement/Proficiency badge of the SS in bronze; the sun wheel in bronzed zink; vaulted; with black enameled SS-runes in brass fastened to the badge via four prongs; enamels with a small chip and moderate contact marks; vertical slender banjo style pin with a block hinge and a flat wire catch; with the owner’s name “C. E. Bahr” scratched into the reverse; measuring 46.50 mm in diameter; weighing 32.0 grams; extremely fine condition. Rare.

                              https://www.emedals.com/a-rare-germa...e-ss-in-bronze

Far too expensive price, near 7000 euros with fees...
