Where is the second photo from? Looks like reenactors.

From Histomil.com : Bundesarchive photos all fields of WW2
IMO I don't think that these SS men are reenactors

Looks like early war Russia due to what they are wearing.

Well the guy on the lower right at least certainly looks well fed for an SS infantry soldier in wintertime on the russian front. I have seen many war time photos but never of a fat guy like that in the SS or a Wehrmacht front unit.

Also one Mantel seem to have runes on the collar and some tresse around the runes and collar (perhaps)? Not often seen wartime for enlisted men either IMO.

In fairness, who knows when the guy got to the 'front' versus when the photo was taken. He certainly could have been recently deployed.

Hi Sonnenwende, agree that one soldier is 'well fed' (!). However, I don't think there is any problem with runes on greatcoats in (for instance as Kammo man suggests) - early war/ Russia 41/42. I have seen pictures of SS soldiers with runes on greatcoats in the earlier war period. I know that the Luftwaffe had collar patches (and NCO tress around the patches only, though not the full collar) until October 1942.

                        Regards, Paul

As an ex reenactor that photo looks like a group of reenactors, to me the photo looks too sharp

Hello - Just FYI, Histomil's website has many re-enactor photos and movie stills. The Bundesarchiv images http://bit.ly/2migFCZ thread in particular has a lot of inaccurate photos. I was surprised once I took the time to sit down and go through it carefully.
