This volunteer Waffen band a good price?

Found this today and wondering if you think it's a good buy, as in a good price compared to typical market value.

Fonts match up... French typesetting / spelling correct (I've seen ones that leave out the "des" and the "s" on Volontaires.

unfortunately it is a fake...

The French Waffen-SS and the LVF were two different types of units, the first depending of the SS-Hauptamt and the second from the OKW. The LVF officially existed from fall 1941 to fall 1944, the French Waffen-SS from Summer 1943 up to May 1945.

This is like having on the same armband "USMC" and "US Army".
It makes no sense.

Also i don't remember seeing this kind of armband for use in France in 1943-44.

Did you tested the armband with an UV light ?

I did not purchase this item. I merely saw it, checked some internert info and decided to pursue more info here. It's not really something I collect. I was really just curious about its authenticity. Thanks again for the history lesson! Learned something today.

Maybe you should do your own research then in future ... there is a huge reference book in print on the French Waffen-SS volunteers called 'For Europe' I suggest you purchase it.

Hi,

good that you didn't bought this item ghostcinderella.

I sent the pictures - just to be 100% sure - to one of my friend who is a big right-wing and political/military collaboration in Europe collector.

He confirmed that it was 100% bogus.

We should note that in a lot of political meetings in Paris in 1943-1944, various military units with French volunteers were included (NSKK, W-SS, LVF, Todt, KM...), not counting all the collaborationnist parties with their security services (Francisme, Parti Populaire Français, Rassemblement National Populaire and many other small and obscure ones), ...
So many different armbands were used, so we may legitimately think that special armbands may have been used.
Fortunately the "war" between all the political and military units was so intense that we can be sure that this kind of armband never existed.

Now i must point out that three types of official armbands existed for "Les amis de la LVF & co" ("The friends of the LVF") in France.

Please check below the three armbands, from the top to the bottom.

* The first one is for the "Friends of the LVF" (mostly used by the wifes).

* The second one is for the "Old fighters of the LVF" (only ex-LVF soldiers).
Notice the Swords on the armband.
A variant of this armband exist, with golden sides (please check the photo below, in the middle is Guy Servant) for the first 50 enlisted members in the LVF.

* The third one is for the administrative personnel of the "Friends of the LVF" (there were local HQ/recruitment centers in many cities).

Apparently you do not understand the point of a "forum", which is defined as a place of discussion and learning where ideas and knowledge are exchanged.

And while I do have books, and I research the best that I can, I am not an expert, and hence the reason I occasionally turn to a "foooooorum". But it's sad when people, instead of helping or enlightening on something posted, they prefer just to leave one-word answers allied with a cute little emoji. That's helpful.

Admittedly, again, I just do not know everything, and cannot always find answers, and hence the reason I turn to forums of all kinds. But I love research, and do it often for things of which I am passionate..... such as my website on German maritime shipping, which took a hell if a lot of research over years, translation of German text (which i do not speak), and the colorization of photos and deck plans.
which I painstakingly prepared so that everyone visiting my site might learn and enjoy further the history of the ship and benefit from images and information not easily found. So when I post something on a forum and seek a little help... I'm sorry if that makes me look lazy. I am most certainly am not. I just don't know everything and there's only so much time in a day.

I should add that for people interested in the French collaboration, three essential books that everyone should have :

1) Organisations, mouvements et unités de l'Etat Français, Grancher 1992 (reissued by Le Grand Livre du Mois in 2002)

2) Partis et mouvements de la collaboration, Grancher 1993
(reissued by Le Grand Livre du Mois in 2002)

3) Les Français sous le casque allemand, Grancher 1994
(reissued by Le Grand Livre du Mois in 2002)
>>> everything about the French under the German uniform (LVF, SS, KM...)

The 1992-1994 and 2002 books are printed on very nice glossy paper.
Each one is +250 pages, A5 sized book.

Very important info :
The first two books were reissued in 2009 as a single +500 pages book (Etat Français + Paris) and the last book was reissued in 2010.
DO NOT BUY THEM ! The two reissued books are LASER PRINTED (like many books since the 2000s...).

If some WAF members are interested in them, i already bought them for a dozen of friends and contacts over the world, usually i can find the "old" editions for around 30-40 euros for the three books (shipping to be added).
