SS M44 jacket salty barn find - opinions needed

    Hi all,
just got my hands on this M44 jacket which I would call camp made most likely for the Waffen-SS?
The jacket was heavily worn, showing some repairs and sadly quite a few moth holes.
Nevertheless an undeniable original piece of history.
I would well appreciate your opinions about it. What do you think, Waffen-SS or Wehrmacht tunic?
Should be a nice restoration project for somebody whos looking for a nice salty field jacket.
    Cheers

Italian HBT liner - tpyically used on SS jackets as well.

Jacke also came with the removed soulder board loops inside the pocket.

Always nice, regardless the condition, these finds.
I'm sure you checked the sleeve towards the light to see signs of a previous SS eagle? Impossible to see on the photos if there has been one or a Heer breast eagle; any markings -remains- could also help. The HBT liner could indeed be a indication for SS issue but certainly no condicio sine qua non of course.

One little black sewing thread remnant on the sleeve eagle area however due to the condition no major signs of any insignia present.

Could be either Heer or SS from what is shown. Or it was unissued and worn by pow or post war. I have pictures of men and women wearing m44 tunics without insignia in camps.

If any markings and placement that would certainly help. That fabric lining was used by ss but also by heer so that is not a precise indicator.

Wonder why the shoulderboard loops were removed but not the shoulderboard buttons? Probably POW as already mentioned.
Seems no sign of a breast eagle based on the photos, but you have it in hand and would be able to see better. If there was a black thread where the sleeve eagle should be, then I'm guessing SS.

                      Nice jacket!
