Deschler M1/52 TK CupAl - Good?

    Hello All,

I found similar examples in the forum that received a , but just wanted to make sure before I acquire this one. Most of the obverse finish is gone, and the pins are clipped. Not sure if the previous owner polished the heck out of this one, but, it does look interesting with the base metal so exposed.

    All comments are appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Eric

      Looks ok to me.

It's a shame about the polishing, but it will patinate again and dull down.

Nice Original TK. To bad the prongs are gone but still collectible.

The pins are missing? Really. Thanks for pointing that out.

Great original TK, worn finish or broken prongs wouldn't bother me at all. Great piece!

A hard worn original , with not only the surface silverplating gone , but even the Aluminum base from underneath the Copper showing through .

But - I would by now have expected that someone noticed that both the Splinte / prongs are missing ..

                          Hello Winkelman,

Now that I am home and am able to look at it very closely under a few different magnifications: the silver color that remains on the obverse is actually the final finish, on top of a copper plating, on top of what I assume is a Cupal/Brass base. The foundational material itself looks to be the Cupal. Surprisingly, even though one would expect the highest points to be the most worn (brow, chin, bones) - for some reason the finish is still present and the middle points are what is worn away.

                          Regards,

                          Eric

                            Hi,

This style of CupAl was aluminum in the core, with very thin copper sandwiched over the aluminum on both sides. Anyway, the bright parts on the front that you see are spots where the copper has worn away, exposing the aluminum core. This is very common. As for the back side, it still appears to have some of the finish on it. This is also common to see.

                            Hope this helps!

                            Chris
