    ss heimwehr danzig stein

I picked this up with some other wwii stuff. I am usually leery of anything ss and especially from danzig. Wanna make sure it is good before I placed it up for sale.

No markings on the lid or glass bottom. The lid feels like pewter like a regular german regimental stein. Handle is applied.

The 'verdigris' is the fake paint on stuff.

          Stein

I would think the level of craftsmanship would be far better on an original. Please take notice to just the errors on the swastika balance!

            HD Stein

I think the points brought forth by Ian and Howard are note worthy, however, I like this stein and feel it has a strong possibility of being original. The balance of the hand engraving is well within the proper limits of a period piece IMO. I tried to look closely at the verdegris and staining. They appear natural to my eye. Also, the symbology at the top of the stein lends itself to being genuine and not fantasy contrived. Cheers

Actually, the Swastika looks pretty good compared to the attempted Iron Crosses and feeble lions- Just cannot see this as German made, unless its a trench stein.

I've collected steins for 40 years.
Sadly the item - IMHO - is NOT genuine.
The telltales are in the poor quality of the hinge and tang plus the fact that pewter does not turn green as displayed. It will develop a patina but not as this item has.

Fantasy item. There is a fake luftwaffe stein currently being discussed. Different levels of work for higher or lower prices. Crooks like to create items that are impossible to compare. Fantasy items make it easy to deceive because of lack of originals to compare.

looks quite new and amateurish made. If period, the hand engraving would have been a comissioned work made by a professional engraver...but not this one.
