SS stickpin Help

Hello
I bought a grouping from a vets family, and this pin was included. It appears to be missing the lower portion of the pin, and is a little dirty, but otherwise fine.
What is it for?
what does the F> M. stand for? Are they hard to find?

FM stands for "Förderndes Mitglied" means people who have the ss financially supported.

Someone cut the needle, but it looks good to me so far.
Yes it is a rare thing.

I think the bottom of the pin just broke where the decoration, or turning was on it. It came with a bunch of other german medals that appear to have been pulled off of a uniform. The pins on several of the medals are also missing. Per the family, this is the way their father brought them home..

here some information for you:

A Förderndes Mitglied der SS (SS-FM; SS Patron Members) was a member of a Nazi organisation for individuals who did not join the Allgemeine SS (General SS) for active duty, but instead contributed financially to the SS. The SS-FM was organised by the SS Wirtschafts-und Verwaltungshauptamt (SS Economic and Administrative Department), and started in 1926. Members of the SS-FM made monthly payments towards the work of the SS at their local SS headquarters. For people with low income, the grant was correspondingly low, a minimum contribution was not prescribed. Each member was issued with a lapel pin and a receipt book. From April 1934, members also received a monthly magazine, entitled FM-Zeitschrift, which was produced by the SS High Command. By 1939, circulation of FM-Zeitschrift was approximately 365,000, but very few copies of this magazine survive today.

What is a ballpark value? I have seen nice examples for around $400..

They are not extremely rare IMO: you can find them for sale on regular base. But they are indeed pricy because their relationship to the SS. I guess anything with the slightest connection to the SS demands big $$$.
