    John,
modern machines on the whole nowadays use polyester or polycotton(hence why a lot of fakes will melt) you could use cotton or even rayon , but one of the big give-aways is the back thread, while they have large spools for the front thread the spool for the back thread is the same size as the ones you get in normal sewing machines, so this thread is a 3rd of the size of front threads and is always 100% polyester or nylon,
    cheers,
    Gary
notice the thread on the front of the delta tab above, this is one of there give-aways, the backing material is also another and something no matter how these tabs are fooled with can be changed

Michael: They can probably get the wool backing and the cotton thread 100 percent correct...the only problem part they would have would be to imitate the buckram backing and the glossy/sticky material on the buckram..

        John,
Yes, also talking about the stiching (weave pattern etc) on the back of the tab. Should of made myself a bit more clear.

            John,
originals tabs are embroidered with Rayon not cotton, and while both these threads are made from the same raw material cellulose they are completely different fibres when processed, delta tabs used cotton, rayon has a lustre, cotton does not although there is a slight lustre to mercerised cotton
            cheers,
            Gary

Hi Gary: That is interesting. Here is one that I think is a Delta tab..and made from cotton as you mentioned:

What do you think about it? Is it a Delta? It is cruder than one I have that I am sure is real.
