Totenkopf collar tab for review please

    Hi.

I'm thinking of purchasing some SS items from a UK dealer.

Thought I would get opinions on a couple of things first though...

    First up:

I've read that this 61/35 tag is often used on fakes, but is also a legitimate tag...?

    Your opinions valued, thanks.

Fake tab and fake (Delta) label. Tab itself isn't a Delta though.

          Hi.

It's one of many UK dealers with online shops. Not going to mention publicly.

It's up for £250 which is cheap for an original (I think) but crazy money for a fake.

There are lots more SS stuff on the site, and I've only got the pics as lifted from there.

I'll PM the site to anyone who's interested.

          Thanks for the feedback

I would suggest that it is also a fantasy piece. I am not aware of a horizontal right-facing Totenkopf with the pre-1940 silver and black piping. August of 1940 the piping was discontinued and the same year the horizontal tabs started to appear. Never with piping for men.

I don't think you need to mention it ....
Most of the items on this site are S**T
A tab like this would cost you £1500 to £2500 depending on condition

I would be very interested to see a period photo of that.

Respectfully, approval of any SS insignia by a few individuals, especially one that is not historically accurate, does not make that something original. If a few people on the WAF like a side-ways SS Runes tab, that does not make it correct or original. A horizontal 1940 pattern machine embroidered Totenkopf collar tab, with SS-TV black/silver piping is not supported by any period photos or research that I am aware of. To my knowledge, there are only two patterns of early war (1940) left-facing machine embroidered horizontal Totenkopf tabs, which are very easy to recognise in period photos. They are very different except both horrifically rare and expensive. They were never made with SS-TV black/silver piping. Mid-war, when the Totenkopf was flipped around to face the right, the black/silver piping was long gone, (discontinued in August 1940). Having collected and studied Totenkopf for many years, I would be delighted to learn of a pattern that that was previously unheard of. However, I believe that period photos, not consensus, are the only true evidence.
