    Politiets Hederstegn (PHT) ribbon bar

    Interesting Schalburg stories from Mikedenmark

I will show something rare from Norway. This is – as far as I know – the second known ribbon bar to Politiets Hederstegn. I have seen the other ribbon bar as well (now in another collection). The front fighter received this ribbon bar in Finland:

"In a conversation with a front fighter a few years ago, I learned that he was awarded the PHT both for service in Leningrad and for his efforts in Finland. For his efforts at the Leningrad front he received the award as he wore on his chest. In Finland he got a ribbon bar he carried above the left breast pocket. This ribbon bar is extremely rare. So far as I know it exists only in one collection – my own".

I will not post a photo of the back side as they have five unique characteristics (to prevent these from being reproduced):

The photo show a Politiets Hederstegn ribbon bar in use by a Norwegian front fighter. The photo does not belong to me and might be used in a book so it is cut:

The Politiets Hederstegn ribbon bar is on display on another rare item: A State police (Statspoliti) lieutenant 1 jacket I found last year. This is one of very few State police officer jackets still in existence (the only known jacket after known owner I have ever seen):

          This was the owner:

Member of Nasjonal Samling (National Assembly). Enlisted as front fighter to 5.SS-Division Wiking. Served as a constable at the state police department in Narvik from November 17th. 1942. Was later promoted. Convicted by Hålogaland Court of Appeal on October 6th. 1945 - including aggravated assault, maltreatment and threats - to forced labor for 9 years. As prisoner he worked cleaning an airport used by the Germans in Narvik. While burning of waste June 20th. 1946 a grenade exploded. He and another prisoner were killed.

The State police (Statspoliti) jacket + breeches were stored at the attic by his family.

                    Thank you guys

I will show another rare item. Even though it is not directly relevant for this part of the forum it is highly indirectly relevant. After frontline service with DnL/Waffen-SS many Norwegians joined Sikkerhets (SIPO)- or Statspolitiet (STAPO) - both with black insignia on their uniforms - when they returned to Norway. State police (STAPO) was subordinate Security police (SIPO) and STAPO in Oslo was located at Victoria Terrasse – same as the German `Der befehlshaber der sicherheitspolizei und der sd` and Gestapo. State police was organized by German pattern.

Twice British Mosquitoes tried to bomb the Gestapo headquarters in Oslo. This photo is taken by a German soldier after the 25.09.1942 raid. They miscalculated and hit a building on the other side of the street of Victoria Terrasse. The arrow show where Statspolitiet had their entrance:

As mentioned many Norwegians joined SIPO or STAPO after ended frontline service. Earlier I have presented DnL-rottenführer Leif Sylvan Knutsen. He joined SIPO as an agent:

There were a total of four generals who led the Security Police / State Police (Sikkerhetspolitiet / Statspolitiet). It was 7-8 Norwegian police generals during the war. This is the only preserved SIPO general visor. I will not mention the owner`s name to save his family from `the search/google ghost` but his silver matchbox shows his initials.
