German uniform trousers???

Gentleman...an embarrassing question...one that I know the answer, or certainly should. It is related to a reenacting group, but pertains to specific WWII German issue clothing. This is young fool who has ingratiated himself into a reenacting group I am associated with. The typical loud mouth who shows up in officer clothing, bedecked in a variety of awards. The problem is the trousers...he claims notwithstanding, these are not German. I have collected since the 70s, and these in no way fit into the styles typical to German issue trousers ...patch pockets sewn to the outside. Am I wrong? Kind of important, though petty, since it has set up a series of back and forth recriminations in the group. Embarrassing...

Thanks Nick...my same impression, though they have flaps on the rear pockets. Perhaps early...1941...Army HBTs?

US Army HBT's had cargo pockets on the sides...Perhaps the hip pockets had flaps added to make these look more German?
