          Anytime, sir!

I bought one of these eagles and it's matching skull when they were first introduced at a reproduction website called "Worldwide Militaria Exchange", (WWME), several years ago. They were around $5.00 each at the time, and I had only been collecting SS for a couple of years. I had not yet even owned a single original Deschler skull at that time. So, these were the first decent fake Deschler pieces that I ever learned, (the skull was actually a little better than the eagle, IMO). I can post the matching skull if anyone wants to see it, just let me know.

Anyway, these fakes were made from newly constructed dies, but they were cast and not die struck, as is usually the case with fakes that have a completely unique design that differs from any original piece. You will see major differences in the details, markings, etc., as well as having the typical cast flaws too, (even though they were not cast directly from any originals).
Notice how the bottom of the wreath has very sloppy oakleaves and the "1" on the "M1/52" marking has no top on it. It's more of a "|" than a "1".

Lastly, all original CupAl "M1/52" marked SS eagles will have round or oval discs underneath the prongs where they are attached.

Sorry if I am getting too involved here, but I thought that maybe someone might want to know these things and maybe it will be beneficial to some of you collectors. Have a nice day!

          Chris

on the skull that you show here prongs attached to the round dicks or directly soldered to the skull ?

                  Welcome!

Sorry, I didn't take a whole reverse shot. Anyway, the prongs are attached exactly like the eagle you posted here, (no discs). I will say that it is always more important to try to remember other key features of these, besides the prong attachments, because I have seen a few of these that were doctored up with nice prongs and discs applied. This is fairly easy to fix, but other features and flaws that you find on these are not fixable at all. One thing to notice on the skull is the small eye holes and how deep the metal within the eyes are. If you look, you will find many of these flaws.

                  Hope this helps!

                  Chris
