odd stitch pattern but cap looks OK....the experts will give you the thumbs up or down.

Never seen before a badge sewn like this on a german uniform , on a US one yes !
I don't like the cap either : artificial patina,size stamp too big ...

This same style stitch was taught to my by my mother in the early 70's. She called it a chain-stitch and learned it from her mother in the 40's. That's all I got. Can't comment on the cap or insignia itself.
