Sounds like the same photo I saw Tom, and I'm glad others have seen it. It was of an SS Sturmmann from memory in an overcoat and clearly SS4 collar tab. Still looking in my bits and pieces to find it. It was a studio photo again from memory. The question remains though, who were they or could have been - any ideas from anyone?

I think it was attributed to Berlin Standarte?

While its encouraging to hear various opinions both ways the question remains, there is a picture in Angolia's Book "Cloth Insignia of the SS"of a tab SS4 with no comment about it being a copy and also a photo, hopefully to be posted soon, of the tab on a coat. Until they are shown to be fakes the question remains - who could the group have been, I have no idea

Posting for Mung1256. I am 95% certain this is the photo I saw a few years ago that excited so much interest but will check with a colleague in the week.

              ss4

Thanks Tom for posting the photo. I am surprised by the deafening silence on the photo, or the photo in Angolia's book. The question remains "who were SS4". If you have an opinion either way that's fine but state your reasons so those of us who are not as well educated in this area can make an informed opinion.

Well here we are at the end of 2016 and there's nothing about the SS4 collar tab since July/August. I take it from that no-one knows who they were, I certainly have no idea. As no one's shown the photo or the tab in the book to be fakes then I take it SS4 existed, the question remains - Who were they or could have been as a result of a renumbering etc.

The issue for me is that if its unable to be disproved that SS4 existed then a lot of articles etc will need revising

                  Ss4

Well I am surprised by the lack of information/comment on the SS4 Tab.
Here we are now in Feb 2018 and nothing for over 12 months. I thank Tom for suggesting it may be Berlin as I said I have no idea but was hoping the collective knowledge here could help.

Also was Adolf Eichmann entitled to wear the old fighters chevron and the SD diamond. If so which of the diamonds, with or without the silver border. Is there a photo of him wearing these?

                  thanks

Do you know anything about the SS4 'unit'
