Period flemish picture question about a visor eagle

    Hello,

I'd like to hear your opignions on this picture as seen in the tollenaere map.
Is it a bullion eagle on the visor or an metal one.. (Size looks bigger, shadow all around and shape)

    Thanks in advance
Would be great to see the original picture in detail any one who know where to look for it??

Lots if interesting stuff going on in this image.
Actually Heer (Army) schirmmutzen were the norm for the Flemish legion. So green bands + Heer cap eagles were most often seen.
They just swapped out the cockade for a skull (SS or sometimes Pz). The latter here also seen on a Heer overseas cap and another Heer with soutache and cockarde!
There was a shortage in SS visor caps...demand outstripped supply (unlike Holland which was SS controlled, Belgium was under Heer admin, like France so fewer SS Kleiderkasse)
so such Heer conversions (all purchase caps) were modified and SS skulls and eagles were locally produced in Belgium for that reason.

Flemish Langemarck, again Heer pattern eagles predominately or all together Heer schirmmutzen being worn with skulls added!
Note early tellermutze shape even! The older soldier in the front has a proper SS cap eagle!

Thanks Nick for your reply, indeed lots of "unusual" things can bee seen on these pictures. Aso the first soldier on the right has an uncommon lion shield (the soldier having the heer arm eagle).
often we see pictures of flemish volunteers wearing heer cap eagles on there visor's.
What do you think the soldier with the ss eagle on his visor wears a metal one or a bullion?

here is an other portrait picture

Below similar Belgian made embroidered officers quality SS cap insignia. If it is the same as the picture is somewhat difficult to say
but it certainly appears that way. A very large wreath + eagle and a skull on a backing that looks perfectly round...cockade shape!
A match it appears! Good eye!

I have never seen it in (other) period pictures and 9 out of 10 collectors would no doubt probably reject it as being real, because its so different (ugly)
          and foreign made...

Here some Flemish "kriegsberichter" men...again mostly Heer caps or at least Heer eagles! (source credit Cegesoma)
and KB men (same group) at the train station in Brussels heading east...H = Heer!

Only the high ranking officer is wearing a proper German SS visor with black bands and SS cap eagle!
Mostly Heer conversions...the norm for Flemish volunteers! Lighter colored band + Heer metal eagles.

At the Grande Place (main Square) Brussels...
Again lots of Green banded converted army visors...(from same sequence, same source as tagged!)
Compare green band W-SS men with Heer (Army) officer visor...clearly green!

Black banded with a Heer eagle is most likely a rebanded Heer visor (officer)...
The norm was Heer converted caps...private purchase "Ausgehe" schirmmutzen some with skull replacing the cockade, others
with rebanded black bodies, maintain the original Heer cap eagle...
The bullion officers quality insignia which started this thread (intended for M43 caps) is rarely seen on visors!

                  Hey Guys,

I'm going through some older threads and I'm looking for some more pictures of bullion Belgian made cap skulls. i think a few have surfaced in the last few years. I bought one at the SOS and it was posted in early 2015 but I can't find the thread again! Can we add some more to this thread. It seems to have a few and would be a great source for future references!

                  Thanks everyone!!

                    Cap Eagle

                    Hello,

Here is a Belgian made officers bullion cap eagle I had from a U.S. 20th Armored Division vet. He picked it up after the battle at the SS anti-tank school near Munich.
The first picture shows its size with a machine woven sleeve eagle.

I believe you bought the eagle I sold at the SoS unless there was another one there. If so, it’s in the thread posted below.
