Agreed. That black filmy substance used as backing for the embroidery on replicas is usually picked off to hide this feature. The thread itself is also off - this looks like a 1970's-1980's piece.

Spot on .... saved me typing it.

I had one back in the 70's that was done with wire instead of thread ... bought as a repro at repro price.
