        1. Mind you Many period pictures exist in more-than-one quantity, including very rare ones. Are you sure that you are the only owner of that photo?
        2. Are you sure that Lorenzo has used a scan of Your picture (do you recognise some scratches, spots on it, etc )
        3. Have you ever sent Lorenzo a scan of Your picture? Or have you ever posted a high-resolution scan of your picture online? If it is your picture, in your opinion How exactly did Lorenzo get a scan of Your picture? Let me mind you again pictures used for the web and lifted from web pages are of insufficient quality for print. 72px/inch for Web VS 300-600px/inch for print In other words Lorenzo would have needed a huge image/scan of your picture (about the size of five your computer screens combined) to be posted online in order to use it for his book
        4. Have you ever sent a scan of your picture to anybody (friends, etc)? Many collectors contributed to the book and some of them claimed it is their image. That is the fact

Are you joking? He only had permission to use the picture inside the book, I have never heard of such a thing. If an author is given permission to use a picture they use it how they see fit. If anything, I would think the owner of the picture would be honored it was chosen to be on the front cover.

Not necessarily true, permission may be given for a specific use or general use. Unless we hear from the owner of the picture all is speculation.

I published a book on the history of an American combat unit and on one occasion, specific use of one image was given, the rest who sent pics said to use as i saw fit. My book is now out of print.

Exactly! And not even on topic.

                Hi,

Jeff, i have many stories of collectors asking for very specific uses of their pictures.
And the same problem is currently in jeopardy on the memoirs of a french volunteer in the LVF then SS. The family do not want that any picture (that will be in the book in smaller format) of their ancestor is used on the front cover.
They are fearing that someone may - "by mistake" - identify their relative.

But it would be interesting to get the view of the collector that is said to be unhappy with the use on the front cover of his picture.

                See You

Excellent point, and in a sense, not off topic as it relates to analyzing the character of the subject in question. It is part of a pattern.

Lorenzo did not have permission from the legal owner to publish this photograph.

The person credited with giving this portrait to Lorenzo was not the legal owner of the photograph. This individual failed to inform the legal owner of the photograph that he sent it to Lorenzo with permission to publish it.

Beersheba, Then why did you insert that info into this and another thread in order to discredit the book author. This is not a reflection on the book author it is a dispute between two others. If this is true ....and the whole thing sounds like a load of BS to me ...the author simply used the photos in good faith. Your story seems to change a a bit every time you post...so why don't you just have David Bunde and the "mysterious photo owner" that you seem to speak for come on the site and hash it out in another thread rather then use this lame attempt to dicredit the book.

                        Photo

The photo in question used to belong to Me. When I sent the scans to Lorenzo in 2011, I had the photo in My collection for a month at the minimum. I received an e-mail from the collector I was dealing with and He said He wanted Me to return the photo. I returned the photo along with another and never heard from Him again. I thought it was unusual because I had been trading with the Guy for a long period of time. I was buying Helmets (WWI), panoramic photos etc. Many of the items He asked about were on E-Bay. He’d find an item then tell Me about it and the Maximum amount He wanted to spend. I would place the bid under My name then ship Him the item when I received it. At that point, He would send Me a package of photos in trade. I never knew what photos He was sending Me until they arrived. Both of Us had collected SS, FJ, HG and some other rare ones. I always received nice photos in return. On the cover of the other Lorenzo Book was a portrait photo of Mine but I had given that one away as a Gift to another collector. Several pictures that Lorenzo used in His books that were Mine at one time have gone to other collectors. I still have not received a reply from the Guy that posted the message showing the cover of the book. I wrote to Him today but have yet to receive a reply. Sorry for the long winded reply. Sincerely, David J. Bunde<O> </O>

The author pretty much himself discredit the book, like so many other authors. J

Does anyone actually own these books yet? Just because Lorenzo has a bad reputation for faking does not mean the books are crap or filled with fakes. I wonder if he even put the "italian" helmet covers in the books.

                                You have to be kidding!

An authors reputation goes to his personal credibility and the sum then transfers directly to the veracity of any reference he authors or IMO is allowed to participate in. I suppose an exception would be if the subject of this reference is fraud camo identification.
