How did no one spot these covers years ago when they first come up for sale?
How did he go so long selling these and getting away with it.

So where are all the rest in private collections of people watching this thread scared to speak out..

I'm saying I was told that there were UK dealers who found out (along with no-doubt European and U.S. dealers) and who cleared out any of these they may have acquired and didn't touch covers again.

Yeah i can see this happening. If they can't return it they would try to pass it on or trade it. They dont want to be out of pocket.

You learn to trust your own knowledge ... that trust can be very expensive to acquire though.

I'm sure we all have our own list of people we feel are straight and honest for second opinions ... I know I do.

This hobby is no different than anything else in the world , Art forgeries that take Museums decades to sort out , coin collecting , civil war items , its all the same , if there is a buck to be made it is going to be copied , that is just a fact of life, in German collecting there was a grace period at first when 95 % of the stuff was coming from Vets up to about 1975 , those days are over , this is today , we still have collectors that know how to tell from prior examples that have solid provenance or manufacturing techniques so PAY ATTENTION, its not always easy . Guys like Fritz and camo man are very helpful and have devoted more time than anyone can realize trying to help the collecting world , with no other agenda . Believe what you will but the facts are right in front of your noses ....... no one knows everything about how something was made in 1944 but sometimes we have to fill in the blanks from the little we do know , when someone sets out to copy something and devout s years to doing it it takes a little longer to sort out .
and that boys and girls is the lesson for today ! sorry to sound like a school teacher but , been collecting for 50 years and have seen this hobby from 1960 till now , its different now but we still can compare early known examples to some of the things we see today and draw our own conclusions .

All this stuff is made from Zelt fabric which is incorrect for these items.

Ha ha, I am *trying* to wake up Owen! I am usually the very last one to the party and my substantial duties otherwise are such that I find it draining and time-consuming to wade through the posturing, shilling and back biting that goes on in interminable contentious threads like these. If there was actual conclusive evidence posted in the thread I just probably missed it. However, after I commented the other day I was contacted privately by a trusted source (who apparently does not participate here) seeming to confirm at least some of what has been alleged. As has been the case for many years now, I rely upon and trust your expertise. Know that it is appreciated.
