    Round / Circular SS Runes

Has anyone ever seen these? Where they worn or issued?

I have always seen them in the rectangular shape.

    Thanks

Yes I have wondered about this too ...

I believe I have seen them on black, worn in an original photo. I will have to do some searching.

I cannot recall seeing them ongreen, but believe this insignia is authentic wartime produced.

I assumed these were the SS runes worn on the police uniform to show SS membership but not cut down.

So as they came out of production as round and it was up to the soldier or tailor to cut them to size?

Hello. I assumed it but may be wrong.

If you look in the uniforms section of the estand now, there is a police SS tunic with the runes cut to shape. There is a lot more material around the runes than your example.

There is a nice period photo of a round one in use in this thread.

I know, I was doubting myself! Ha ha.

The thread posted by Dave is very interesting but doesn't answer this question or not. The round runes on the estonians tunic look temporarily added or attached without being cut down.

As I say I had assumed the runes were issued on a round piece of material but the spare material around the runes on yours doesn't seem enough when compared to those on tunics.
Unless it has been cut down slightly as well?

I hope I'm not confusing things.

I'm just glad to be able to help out on the thread.
I just wish I could answer the question why some are circular and some are cut.
I'm guessing they may have come from different sources.
But from the period pic and the one at the start of the thread and the very few I have seen for sale. I would say it is safe to assume the runes in circular form are harder to come by than the cut version.
                              Cheers
                              Dave
