Me. I'll say it without hesitation. It's absolute junk. For $40 you got ripped off big time.

This really isn't a very nice thing to say. What I do with my money is my business. I did check some old posts on solid silver skulls and some very smart people who own very similar skulls. Some of these people agree they did exist during the war. I'm not familiar with you. Are you an expert?

No, not at all. It doesn't take an expert to see that your newly acquired skull could never have been worn on a TR period cap. And nobody, smart or not, owns a "similar" skull that existed during the war. It is one-looker rubbish and you could get far more convincing repros for half that sum. I'm not being "not nice" - just honest with you. Once you've done your homework, you will agree with me.

It's ok, brother. Everybody has a right to their opinion. I'm just not one to call peoples stuff "garbage" or "rubbish", but that's just me. I'm going to include some photos that Bob Hritz and DaveJ posted some years ago when solid silver TKs were being discussed. I don't see a big difference in my skull other then the large eyes and nose on my piece. Of course as I had mentioned before, the eye and nose sockets on my skull had been widened by a tool as well as the added cuts on bone ends. Its interesting that my piece is stamped in the exact location and manner as the photos Mr. Hritz posted back in 04. Somebody made them at some time. When, I don't know.

PS, if you happen to have any just like this, I will buy all you have for $20 each...

Two solid silver skulls posted by DaveJ back in 07. One on left marked 900 and one on right 800, both in identical spot as my skull. Interesting topic, I think.

I think its very odd that these examples also have replaced prongs...

Be careful buddy. There's a very fine line between being fooled and being a fool, and you're way off balance.

While all of those pieces are cast fakes, that is where the similarity to yours ends. Those pieces were meant to fool decades ago and were placed on (mostly bad) caps that were sold at shows. The faker stamped them on the obverse (that's the front) so that he could point to the stamping and say something like, "This cap was worn by Obersturmbannfuhrer Arsefuch who was a man of high importance in the SS-Hauptamt! He had all of his uniforms tailor-made on the HitlerStrasse right across from the FuhrerBunker!", and then he would sit back and listen to all of the oohs and ahs from the little crowd of well-heeled fools that gathered around, and he could name his price.

Yours is a far more recent fake-of-a-fake-of-a-fake and should not fool ANYONE.

This forum is for true collectors of original TR militaria, and words like "junk" and "rubbish" are used all of the time to describe items that don't belong here. I'm far from the first and definitely won't be the last to use them. If you plan to show more items in your "collection", you better get used to them!

That's not a problem, my friend. I've had my items called worse, lol. I've also had people make some pretty serious offers for my "junk". I do differ from your opinion on what the forums are for. I think its so collectors can learn more about a collectable that has been imitated and faked more then any other. Really, what else would we have to talk about? My point being, there are some pretty smart people out there that cannot say for sure if these skulls are period or not. If you read some past threads you will see that some of these very smart people said they do exist for sure. In fact the only positive examples were mounted on hats that had very strong provenance. If you think about it, the only way they would have known they were solid silver is if they were marked on the outside.

                                That's a good one Mauro.

Even if that piece of junk is silver, it's still worth way less than $20.
