I have an early photo of an ss officer, his unit is 48, can anyone assist with identifying the unit or even the officer as it looks as if he is an early member, I know I'd is a long shot but I can't seem to locate the unit 48?

I'll think you'll find it might be Leipzig ...
Get yourself the cloth insignia of the SS if this is the direction you are going to take.
It can be a great help from time to time

David is correct. Standart 48 is Leipzig.
