        SS Music

I might suggest obtaining a copy of the book "Musik in der Waffen - SS" by Fritz Bunge. It was published in 1973 by Munin Verlag, GmbH, Osnabruck. It is about 6" x 8", has 75 pages plus about 30 pages of period photographs.

And the LAH Schellenbaum in France 1940 ( this one would have the TK on the front of flag instead of the early party eagle , I believe ) ..

What questions do you have in particular? I can give you some information, but what are you looking for specifically? From looking at your 1/6 figures, I can give you a bit of information that might help.

The entire LAH music platoon had fringe on their Schwalbennester. They were the only unit that did so as a whole.

The Spielmannszug wore 2cm fringe, the Musikkorps had 3cm Fringe, and the Tambourmajor had 7cm fringe.

Other SS Musikkorps wore 3cm fringe and the Spielmannszüge wore no fringe.

Most ranks that you see in the Musikkorps and Spielmannszug are low level. SS-Musiker (SS-Mann) to Rottenführer. Occasionally you see an Unterscharführer. A Sr. NCO (mit portepee) would serve as the Tambourmajor.

The Schellenbaumträger was usually the one of the tallest men in the Regiment.

                  Hope this helps.

                    Hi dixiedrummer

                    Some questions

My Musikkorps will have black uniform and the Schellenbaum with death head when does they change the eagle to death head?
So do they have also white belt and white Swallownests also in this time frame?
                    Also which helmet?
What`s difference between Musiker and Spielmann?

                    Thanks

I have never seen a picture of the Leibstandarte Schellenbaum with the death's head. It was an eagle with Adolf Hitler Standarte under it. They never used the death's head for the Schellenbaum that I've seen.

It depends on which time period you're trying to replicate. The LAH debuted the white leathers in 1936. Other than military police units, the LAH was the only SS unit permitted to wear the white leather. The Schwalbennester originally were 7 rows of 20mm white tresse for the Spielmannszug and 20mm aluminum tresse for the Musikkorps, but it was changed to aluminum for everyone in 1936.

Most photos show the WWI style m16 helmet being worn with the black m32 uniforms all the way through 1939.

Just to clarify, the Musikkorps was the regimental band and the Spielmannszug was the fife and drum corps. SS-Musiker was the first basic rank of a musician. It's the same as an infantryman being an SS-Schutze or Grenadier.

Indeed , I was pretty sure that I had seen info on the early party eagle changing at some point to a TK , but not so for LAH ..
In which case the 1/6 scale model shown here is incorrect - in both the TK banner used , as well as the officers rank of the bearer .. ?!

really sad that 3R/DID did not ask, to make correct products

Also , if it was not clear from the pictures shown :

the large metal cross section " horns " were engraved with the tekst " Adolf Hitler Standarte " , I think they missed that too .. ?
I am now also convinced that they simply copied the TK flag design from the trumpet flags - and the LAH Schellenbaum flag remained with the party eagle .
Not an easy subject , but that would make for three mistakes .

Still I would already pre-order the model , because I can assure you this is one that will become a classic collectors item in the 1/6 world ..
