Because it's the second (later) pattern of SS cap eagle, 1936 onwards.

Sometimes heer eagles were worn on SS caps, and Ss insignia on Heer caps......its not common but it existed.

I dont think that cap ever had a scull on it, hopefully the buyer will not destroy the hat adding an skull to it.

Right, just put a heer eagle on it, (late war), and be happy that you now have a nice SS eage saved in a desk drawer for the future; and a nice heer cap.

Personally I would leave it EXACTLY the way it is UNLESS there's clear evidence someone buggered about with the cap very recently ... it's part of it's history and 'charm' if you will.

Besides the eagle is probably worth as much as the cap.
