                ss hELMET ???

This came from a widow of a man that I met a few times, but lived in my local community. I did not really know him and do not know her, I just want to do the best by both of them as Im can. I feel it is my duty as the last real collector/seller in this area. I will not be the seller of these products, I just need to know the value in this market.
She thinks it is worth 5.000 dollars, I do not even think it is real any help, it is a sign of the times.

                    Helmet

Yes, it is re-decal ed, but is it period done? I always get amused, there might of been 900,000 to one Milllion SS soldiers and you go to shows, I have probably seen 100,000 SS helmets in MY LIFETIME.
I just do not think it is real, but I suspect ALL SS helmets, and I am just trying to help out a grieving widow. I actually am inventorying 2 estates and I can tell you in this slow market, I am stressed, I want to do right. But they think it is worth 5K.
                    Jack

CAN I GET MORE OPINIONS PLEASE

You should probably post it in the correct place--the helmet sub-forum--as most of us collect SS insignia and uniforms.

                        Helmet

Sorry Guys about posting this on the wrong forum, I just thought it was a pure SS forum. Plus I am pretty frustrated, I have several 40 gallon containers from 2 estates (it was supposed to be nice stuff) as it turns out it is almost all junk.
And as I was doing this last night my wife spilled a drink on my laptop keyboard.
And in this market, I am almost afraid to buy junk. My clients would rather pay more and get something nice. But since I am nearly (maybe) the only person in Tulsa that buys this kind of stuff I feel an obligation to buy it junk or not, it is a catch 22 situation, I want to do what is right, but I do not want to pay for boxes of junk. Jack

Shouldn't the SS and the swastika be on the opposite sides?

Good catch and yes they should. These decals are old, were they period done? they sure look like it to me, but why? why are they on the 'wrong' sides? I see a Heer lid under there...its an interesting one for sure, I say it has some hope but you need to post it over in the helmet forum here.
                            Good luck Jack,
I hope its a good one.

That chipping looks strange to me, as it it were done at the same time with an object.

Post this to the helmet forum and you'll get a solid answer.
