Do you disagree that most camo caps and helmet covers offered for sale today are crap?
What I take exception to Ludwig,

is being told that I don't or have not handled original items just because I am interested in, researched and studied the "Pink" smock. Why even mention the 'pinks" on this thread ?

A blind-man at 10 meters could see that the SS camo cap which started this thread is good. However, in response to Owen's request and to back it up, I am showing the basis of why I like the cap that started this and where my basis is coming from.

If I have wrongly tarred you with the wrong brush then I apologise. As for commenting on other SS caps and helmet covers, I have never claimed to be an "SS-Camo-Expert" and instead just quietly read such threads but I take it all in,

Apologise accepted, Chris. No big deal.
I´m not into this area anymore. Just swooping around now and then. I have had a WSS camo cap and a couple of helmet covers, right out of the hand of the original owner (the WSS soldier) and I very, very seldom see anything like that stuff "out there".

        Thanks Ludwig,

yes like you I value those times in my collecting time that I have picked up SS items directly from a veteran. The New Zealanders main encounters with the SS were Greece 1941 and Italy especially late 1944 & 1945. However, sometimes one got to meet a former members of the SS who lived out here after the war. I say lived because many have passed away now,

What I really like about the cap that started this thread is of course the pattern of cammo and the vent holes

Are you saying you got a pink directly from a vet ?

I only have a repro of one of these caps made out of original material..been following them, but never found one I felt entirely comfortable with. I do like the look of these caps. I think all in all..I am still very cautious about them, as original material is abundant as is the proper thread, and there certainly people skilled enough to make them correctly. The visor cardboard and construction are the two sticky points, but I imagine that could be solved by the right person. Its just the relative ease which one of these could be made correctly that scares me.

When you see a real cap in hand you will NEVER be fooled by a fake again.
They all feel right to the eye and touch.
This one has the IT factor.

Shall of course be "Apology accepted" and not "Apologise..." What am I thinking of!

Yes Owen, that is the problem, I've just never handled a real one...never been lucky enough to have a collector share one with me before, and the ones at shows I just dont bother to pick up...I assume they are fake. I do like the teardrop shape and the crown of the cap very much, and the thread does not look like it was sewn last week... it does look right, and really would like to own one. Its on my short list.

No, I am saying that posts like this about "pinks" from you, on threads about SS cammo caps are pointless and lack maturity,

This is going nowhere but again my point is the pink crowd don't post on real ss Cammo items just the fake stuff.
If you can't see that then you are blind

Thanks everybody for your input about the cap! It's much appreciated!

                        Best regards

Sorry Owen, the above is but another pointless posting.

The only useful one on the thread from you so far is where you said "One Looker"

                          And to Ben,

I apologise for my digressions, historical or otherwise on your thread when summoned by Owen's silly posts. However, I appreciate seeing your cap which probably pre-dates my examples. I am not sure if you now own it or are still in the process of buying it but it is an excellent example for any collection

And it should scare you. As for me, I see nothing in this cap that proves or disproves it's originality.
All the points you mentioned have been solved and many an "original" cap out there is not.
And there is NO way to prove it.
After 45 years of collecting, I also dont buy into the "once you have handled and original, you will know theory", nor use the "one looker" jargon.

Why do you keep posting this, you know its not true.

Sorry I got off topic, from the pictures the cap looks like a beautiful original. These are hard to find. thumbs
