      These appear to be a very nice set ...
      But they really don't do it for me they don't have the character I prefer
      To be honest this kind of runic gives me the willies

              me too unfortunately the embroidery of the tab that started this thread differs from original examples with rock-solid provenance that I have on file.
              There are now quite good copies of this type are being made. see one cheap fake below widely available on the internet

                I've seen these tabs before in Dachau bring backs with the same flawed embroidery.

                  You have to be very careful now with these
                  You really do need to spend a little more time with them
                  to notice and look for the difference

                    that's the only picture they have on their web site (in japan). I will try to find a link to that website and will post it here. They are clearly sold as reports but it gives a good idea of what they are capable of in terms of accurate reproducing nowadays. Now just imagine this tab remounted on an original buckram taken for example from cheap LW tabs .. Or even worse they made it just a bit more accurate and from a period or just modern but uv-negative thread and we have an exact clone to an original tab

                      flawed embroidery is not a problem. We know that they more often then not have that feature. I was more concerned with the way the borders of runes are stitched/embroidered. Because on original examples that I have on file borders embroidered in opposite direction than the tab that started this thread: ///// vs \\\\\\ but now after spending some time today studding other original examples I think this direction varied on original tabs and the one that started this thread is indeed original . It has to
