Rank tab for Italian SS .. ?

First of all , I am quite confident that this is a period item , whatever it is .

But - does anyone recognize this as something other than Italian SS ( Feuerschutzpolizei , some sort of SA ) .. ?!

Tab is definitely too large for normal SS ( 6.5 x 5 cm. ) , but so far I did see quite a variety in Italian tab sizes .

Piping is in white silk .

Hope springs eternal , so all suggestions are welcome , before it goes back into the " curiosities " drawer ..

Reverse - obviously has been glued into an album . Prongs of pips are tiny .

My thoughts on this tab is are -
Yes it is most likely a period piece ...
But the piping was added at the time of being glued into an album as this is nothing I've seen before and it's not actually attached to the tab. Put on for the affect
The tab could most probably be SA ?
Shame about the glue

The non silver edge piping is more in line with SA insignia IMO...
but the silver rank tresse has a black line (=W-SS style and NSKK) as opposed to a red one, matching the tab color for SA...(red here)
or maybe there were various styles?
