    SS Skull ?

Gentlemen ... and Chris (SS Collector)
Granted these are not the best pictures in the world but ....
as far as I am concerned this is a skull from what was called the Berlin haul.
Its still in tack with as you can see both pins (which are serrated along both edges)
The question I have is ... Is this SS and is it original ?
    Thank you and regards
    David

    David,
I am not sure we will ever know. I have seen this debated since I first started collecting and beyond. This is definitely a Berlin hord skull. It has the sand residue in the back.

He's right......at some time in the collecting hobby, one has to take off the training wheels and either dive in or just don't go swimming that time. We all learn the same way....but that's why buying from the first person to ever bring an item back has its advantages.(that is if you have a knack to knowing when a story is true or not) good luck on the decision...it seems to me on the gentlemens forum they discuss skulls quite heatedly....you might go there and read every thread just to make your brain squirm like a toad.

In my opinion this skull is fake.
This Berlin hoard skulls are every year growing and growing.
In the case of first patern skull (Danziger type) is sometimes hard to determine for sure wchitch ones were used by SS units.
On the thread below,,Interesting SS TK photo,, is a guy witch not typical for SS units first patern skull.
Summary even if this skull is orginal in this case is hard to say for sure about using by SS units and from other side sometimes SS soldiers used all types of skulls(except big ones and other two paterns of skulls used byImperial Kaiser Army.

P.S Here I post some fakes including I think your type skull

The skull I posted has serrated edges on the top and bottom of the pins.
I don't see them on the ones you posted.
            Regards David

Sorry, I only specialize in the later, full jaw 1934 pattern SS visor skulls.

If you do a search on the Berlin hoard find and/or sandeman youll find more info. Many regard these as repros with a nice added story. They used to sell for Euro 20 a piece on german Nazibay.

However Robin Lumsden, and he knew his early skulls, liked these ones.

I guess you have to make up your own mind about them. I had one a couple of years back but sold it after german collectors trashed them.

                Cheers

David if this skull have serrated edges on the top and the botom of pin this way for sure is a copy.in my opinion.
All skulls witch those serreted edges in my opinion are not orginal
But it is your choice to belive fake or orginal
I have many many Danziger type skulls but none like this

                    Peter,

I don't understand how showing your botanic skull fake experiments helps the discussion. Again you come with examples which differ significantly with the skull presented as a basis of evidence. Only in your last post you acknowledge the serrated pins, which was clearly stated in the description in post 1.

                    Kind regards,
                    Michel

                      Thank you Felix ....
Yes like you I have ever only had this one and as you rightly say one has to make up their own mind.
Personally I don't have a problem with it as its not worth much so you can take it or leave it.
                      Regards David
