    Strange insignia on SS cap

    Hi SS-guys,

Would any of you be able to point out to me what this strange insignia next to the skull is?
The pictured soldier is Georg Joachim 7./SS-Pz. Gren. Rgt. 6, pic taken most likely in 1945.

It looks like it's trying to be an Edelweiss

Not possible, no Gebirgsjäger relation there.

Thanks Roy, I know the badge you are referring to but that is IMO not it.

Just an observation (or more fuel for the fire!). He is wearing an Infantry Assault Badge, instead of the General Assault Badge normally given to SS personnel later in the war.

That badge looks like an Edelweiss to me; Could he have transfered from a Heer Gebirgsjäger unit to the SS and kept the Edelweiss as a memento?

              Just thinking out loud here....

Here's another thought: What would we say about that SS crusher if it showed up on the forum today for discussion? (without ever having seen the picture)

Very badly deformed, used and abused, with a non-regulation insignia attached to it.

                  Interesting.....

I doubt that this crusher would ever make to this forum as it appears here. A dealer or collector would remove the edelweiss, replace the sleeve eagle that is being used in place of a cap eagle and if the crusher was converted from a Heer crusher with a black band cover or just with the dark green band...it would be "restored" back to original condition....hence we rarely see the stuff as it was actually worn. We demand textbook and we get textbook...it is the easiest way to fake.

Definately an edelweiss and a very cool looking piece of head gear.

Hey Frank, that guy looks like Sly Stallone! Nice Photo and I tink it also might be a Edelweiss. Good Luck.
