Photographic study of SS gear in Czechoslovakia

So even though massive quantities of SS tropical gear remained in the Prague (B-M) vicinity unissued , to be discovered and used by resistance fighters as well as post war,
also large amounts were infact issued in the 1943-44 time span! There is just not that much photographic documentation of it...Last edited by NickG; 08-11-2015, 02:14 PM.

An interesting link I think...
Protectorate depot(s) that handled the Polizei division's entire tropical clothing needs (must have been massive inventories) while transferring
from the cold Northern Russian theatre through the Balkans, for occupation duty in Greece.
It all ties in together perfectly! We have a location, a need and a route + photographic evidence and on top of that a Polizei Division veteran witness statement!
Here the funeral picture of their commander killed in a road accident, shortly after his arrival in Greece...
It is because of these funeral images that photographic evidence exists. Finding images of massive use of SS Sahariana uniforms is very rare!
(outside of the post war use by Czechoslovakian security forces of course as I already illustrated!
Thought this side was also interesting to show as well! Again local Czech collectors know of this link...
while other (non military minded) Czech sources simply describe these as left over tropical gear from the DAK campaign (after it ended in 1943)
Incorrect! It is all SS inventories...no linkage to DAK!!!! (not DAK uniforms, not DAK stahlhelms, not DAK pith helmets, wrong theatre!!)
An interesting photographic study I think! (of the most affordable SS uniform out there!)Last edited by NickG; 08-11-2015, 03:10 PM.

Sometimes they tucked their tunics into their pants...
This might explain why we are seeing the occasional examples of tunics with bottom pockets removed...
(here with the bottom pockets still in place!)Last edited by NickG; 08-24-2015, 11:48 PM.

Movie stills so not the best quality... I think this thread has run its course but just wanted to show some more examples...This is why this gear survived in big quanties...
All of this stuff just sitting unused in CZ warehouses...parkas and sahariana kit and tropical kit in general. German helmets were hardly ever recycled-reused
looked to German for post war use... a stigma no doubt ) but those were also among the hoards!
