    Ss Chervron opinions requested...

    Hello Colleagues,

I recently acquired this nice pair of SS Chevrons from a reputable source; please feel free to give your observations.
The Sturmmann tresse is 8mm wide; the Rottenfuhrer tresse is 9mm wide respectively.

I look forward to your observations.

    Cheers!

            Michael,

They look fine. You used to stumble over these all the time, now they have dried right up. Wish I hadn't got rid of mine now!

            Cheers

            Mark

              Thank you Mark!

Your affirmation and comments are most appreciated.

The fellow I purchased them from informed me that there were a large number of these found in bins at Dachau. A very interesting aspect of these is the slight tint to the tresse; not white; rather off-white to biege in colouration. I have compared them next to white versions and they have the same pattern.

He may still have another Rottenfuhrer Chevron; shall I inquire?

              Cheers!

                Hi Michael,

These are the tropical variant. The story I heard was that they were turned up in S Germany in the mid 80's. Whatever the story no one really doubted them, the fact that they are getting harder to find indicates a finite supply(or find) which appears to be drying up. Like all SS Tropical insignia, (with the exception of the tropical cap eagle) the chevrons still have not reached the premium prices their temperate counterparts command, although they are creeping up!

                Cheers

                Mark

                  Hi,

I like the rottenfuhrer chevron(looks spot on) but im not 100% sure on the first one posted(sturmann).

The diamonds on the sturmann tresse look too elongated, like post war tresse. The diamonds on the rottenfuhrer tress look correct.(more square).
The colour on the sturmann is also a bit too creamy. The colour on the rottenfuhrer chevrons look correct(golden tan).

                  I definately like the 2nd one .

                    Thank you Kiefer...

Your comments and observations are appreciated. Perhaps my photos are not so clear. As I look at them, the backing cloth is identical; as well as the darker stitching in the tresse...

Is there a standard width rule to apply to these?

Anyone else have experience with these?

                    Cheers!

                      Hi michael,

I have at present 1 tropical sturmann chevron and 1 rottenfuhrer chevron.

The single tresse on the sturmann measures 9mm wide. The outer tresse on the rottenfuhrer measures 9mm.The inner is 8mm wide.

                        Keifer,

Here is a better photo of the Sturmmann...

                        To all; observations welcome.

                        Respectfully,

PS Keifer? Can you provide photos as well?

                            Hi michael,

I dont have problem with the sturmann in the closeup. The diamonds do look slightly elongated but I like it.I dont think its a factor in this case. Its just a case of one of those points that needed further investigation. The colour looks ok as well.
The closeup on the rottenfuhrer confirms its originality even more.

Both insignia also have correct lockstitch used to apply the tresse.

I can send you some pics in a about a week when i get my digital camera back.

                              Hi,

A quick question - what's the current market price for these chevrons please (both grades)? I ask because I picked up a couple of each from an old local dealer (closed his shop several years ago and he's STILL digging up bits'n'pieces from stored boxes!) and plan on putting one of each on the E-stand.

                              Thanks in advance.

                              Mike K
                              Regards
                              Mike
