It depends on how one would define matching. Matching like from the same uniform or matching by construction and/or materials? I think each collector has his preferences. For me the dream is when they have been on the same uniform. Thats a bit hard to know since its really rare with tabs that has such a pedigree. One indicator can be that they were clued in to an album by the vet. Still that can be "simply what the vet thought to be fitting" or perhaps HOW he removed them...

They have to be together since the war (as one pair) otherwise they are not matching imo even if they are matching by construction/manufacturer/etc.
Matching-like-from-the-same-uniform tabs can (quite often) be not matching/different by construction even mint/unissued pairs tight together on the day one like bevo + wool for example
