Ss strong box
Hi yes I believe this is an SS strong box, my father in law had one which he collected when he was in Germany capturing and interviewing the war criminals after ww2.
His does not have the printing on the top but has a removable red metal section for coins and notes, he claimed it was used to hold money to pay informants, I will have to go over his notes and dvd's to see if it came from anyone important as I know he had some of Himmlers artefacts including his ss ring.
Also on his it has a label on the inside, the label reads "GELDSCHRANK-MASCHE * HANNOVER- LANGENHAGEN, this might be the maker.

But surely this could be any strong box from anywhere ?
Just because a sign-writer paints it with SS Fuhrerheim
doesnt mean its period does it ?
The market is scattered with items like this as it fetches more cash.
For me this is still and only is a safe strong box nothing else

Hi Yes it could be a fake, I know my father in laws is a period piece as he personally collected it but as he died last year I cant ask him the full story, but I do know he recorded a lot of his wartime experiences with a local university and maybe there will be some more information, but as an ex intelligence corpse officer I am not sure how much he was allowed to say.
