It's definitely not a tailor made cap.

Trikot was a wool weave that the RZM publications printed were for Officers and that included retail prices that one would expect to pay from an SS Kleiderkasse store. What you have to consider is that such SS Kleiderkasse garments were made in various places from all over Reich including occupied lands.

It's very possible also that an SS NCO could go and buy a Trikot cap from a source outside of RZM control and I'm quite certain this happened. They would then often have their caps upgraded if or when commissioned.

How do you tell the difference between caps that have been upgraded and ones that were made as Officers from the start? For me, the evidence of a rayon lining and small sweatband are the obvious clues it was an Officers cap from the start but apart from that, all bets are off.

IMO too it is a tailor made cap. Then why no markings?

The piping attachment can give a good clue if a cap officers-made or EM-upgrade. EM and officers caps when made originally have two rows of stitching along the edge of fold-down side panels. When upgraded with officer piping there would be at least one more row of stiching.

I see the "EM-grade" lining, lack of the sweat band and poor quality of sewing somehow don't go very well along with custom/tailor-made concept but, as often, everything is possible.
