Can you show us back pictures too? They almost looked pieced together (especially the first one). I don't think I like them.

That's the one which was sold by Niemann several years ago...totally contrary to regulations to wear more than one SS-DA , but apparently this is as worn by the original recipient.

John I believe the 4 yr and 8 yr SS service awards were no longer allowed for wear in early 41'? The 12 yr and 25 yr ones were allowed, however. It doesn't make sense that a russian front medal would be present? Very odd! Totally against regulation.

First time I have seen a close-up of the devices on that bar, but there is quite some difference in quality between the 8 year and my two 8 years.

You are correct in that the two lower grades were proscribed in '41, but only the highest award was ever allowed to be worn (after a WH-DA if required) and apparently, not everyone removed their devices.
Although bestowal of the 12 & 25 year awards ceased in 1940, the 12year device was still authorised for wear...the 25 year was never awarded, so its wearing never came into play.

Which is why I did not like them.

I don't normally like these soft detailed 8 year devices either, but I could be wrong...unless this one has been replaced.

Swords

IMHO the bar presented is made up to look like the one being worn in the photo, as even the swords are different and are a shallower angle version in the photo.
