very nice!! id get a legit strap for it though and use the black thread on the makeshift one to sew it in,wartime or not that straps gotta go...beautiful tunic!

A. With due respect to my esteemed colleague, I must strongly disagree with the idea of replacing that shoulderboard if there's a good chance it's original to the tunic. It would be wise to wait for further input as to it's originality, IMO.
Put it in perspective.......you've just scored the find of a lifetime, matching cap and tunic, and you're going to remove original parts from it after it survived intact all these years Are you ****ting me, Private Pyle?
You'll regret replacing it - trust me.
B. Measure the holes and their placement in the cap to see if they correspond with the prongs on the eagle. If they're the only holes in the cap, and they line up, it's likely the original eagle. But....if the eagle's prongs are intact, you should ask yourself........then why is it off the cap? Show us the eagle.......

Thank you for all the kind comments guys! I've gotta say I've been very fortunate these past few years with finding great stuff directly from the families. But this find is definitely the crowning jewel of it all so far.

Here's the eagle guys. My assumption is that it and the armband were removed either by the SS Mann or the American vet after the war to denazify the set. Like I said, the eagle was found in the pocket of the tunic.

As far as the strap, I won't change anything on the set. This is how it came to me so this is how it stays. The next owner can decide if it bothers him.
