    SS skull and prinz eugen rune

    Hello everybody,

    I just dug this two items so i am certain that they are both good. They were found 2m from each other.

    My question is what was the purpose of the rune? It is obvious that is field made, how common was for SS soldiers to make their own insignia?

    The skull is a genuine Overhoff M1/24 ... I can't comment on the odal rune except to say lots of foreign units made their own insignia where the issue item wasn't available.

            My guess, since they were found in proximity, is that both are associated with "Prinz Eugen" 7th SS Division, odal was their divisional insignia.

            I would give them both a light cleaning with only soapy water and soft bristled tooth brush.

            edit: Just read the title, so you know this - Nice find, looks like your detector has paid for itself and then some.

                Typical pins for the Overhoff ... 100% perfect skull that requires no more cleaning.

                      It is amazingly well conserved for something that has been in the ground for seventy years. Love the skull, awesome find!
