    SS Tropical Sleeve Eagles

    A question of the forum.

When were the SS tropical sleeve Eagles used in wear please?

As I have a Saharina tunic with the standard "European" B&W SS BeVo eagle that looks to have been there from the day the tunic was issued.

    Thank you, Keith

I have heard that the gold tropical SS eagles were sometimes used on the dot pattern camouflage jackets and if so it was probably done by the individual as most did not have them. It seems there are no set rules for sleeve eagles. If you check Gailen Davids GDM site, he sold what appears to me a gold SS tropical eagle sewn onto a field grey uniform sleeve piece. I think they used whatever was available at the time. There are plenty of wartime photos of Waffen SS soldiers that show that army eagles were used on sleeves as well as M43 hats.

1943 onwards with the arrival of specific tropical clothing.

I was told WSS tropical bevo eagle should be in yellow not white. Then, what are your thoughts on this SS tropical saharina tunic? Do you think the eagle was originally sewn on the sleeve? Could there be a possibility that some SS tropical Saharina tunic did have standard "european" WSS sleeve eagle?

Tropical Eagles are in a yellowy>goldy colour.
The Saharina looks original as is the eagle on it.
The eagle also looks like it is period stitched.
There is a high possibility that some of these garments would have been adorned with standard eagles, as is yours (not tropical eagles).
These Saharina tunics were sometimes worn void of any insignia,
while on others varying degrees of insignia i.e.
          Collar rank only
          Shoulder rank only
Then varying combinations of the aforementioned along with eagles.
