SS collar tabs and pair of shoulder straps

    Hello!

I have a SS officer collar tabs pair that I would like some comments on and also a pair of shoulder straps for SS Panzer.

    What do you think?

    Cheers

I'm saying good or bad but do those pips look a bit rounded? Is that seen often? Mid to late war? I like the rune tab!

The collar rune tab is real and nicely tagged, but it's not very symmetrical with the top of one of the runes kind of blunted. The rank tab is nice, with what look like a metallic version of the glass shoulderboard pips - unless they are just glass under that silver finish.

Overall, a nice original pair of tabs.

                regards, Robert

I could see those pips being glass/resin. Those Germans were pretty inventive.
                  I like them.

The boards are original, and could be SS or army panzer.

I like both the runic tab and rank tab even though the pips are rounded
As stated at first thought they could be the glass type too / quite rare
A very nice set Felix ...

Glass pips interesting you don't see them too often except in photos.

Yes, these are not that common and were allegedly favored for use on SS rank insignia. They are distinctive, front and back. They were properly sized for use on both collars and shoulderboards, slightly larger than regular collars pips and slightly smaller than their metal shoulderboard cousins.

Here are some of the gold shoulderboard painted variety.

They are shown next to the more common metal types. The prongs are longer than the typical types, square cut, and softer / thinner metal.

Very interesting pips, indicative of the desperate conditions that not only the Germans faced at the time. The Japanese also used glass or resin for buttons and other things as well.
The Germans were no more "inventive" than the other major players in WW2.
