I once had to tell a very old relative that someone close to him was a criminal...he did not take it well, and told me he refused to believe it and was almost unable to talk anymore he was so upset. I had to say : Whatever you want to believe is fine, I just had to tell you...Im sorry to have bothered you and will leave you alone now. I never heard from him again.
Your situation Sounds like a very tough one. Especially after reading the others experiences. I think the fact that some older collectors will always believe their stuff is real-as explained by Johnny R. is the worst scenario...especially if they get angry and distrustful at you.
