    12 SS Hitlerjugend Photograph

    Here's a killer 12 SS Hitlerjugend photograph, to me this is the quintessential image of the HJ in Normandy 44.

    Hope you enjoy the image, the Cufftitle did not come with the HJ grouping,..

              Probably I/26 SS-PzG-Regt (HJ) or II/26 SS-PzG-Regt (HJ) under Mohnke and Krause or Siebken.

                I can't read it all, but the back says the photo is the property of Franz Teis of Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, along with his address and unit, which I believe is 2nd Platoon, 15th Kradschuetzen Kompanie "HJ."

                I believe the other writing says the photo is of Hans Weber, born 11 JAN 28 (or maybe 26) in Oberschlessien, a member of 2nd Platoon, 15th Kradschuetzen Kompanie Regiment 28 (or maybe 26) Division HJ. I believe it goes on to talk about a battle on June 17th, 1944 in Fontenoy when British tanks attacked. From there it gets too difficult for me to read everything, but I believe it may say he was wounded by a grenade that went off 1 meter from him and then was later listed as missing. I'm sure someone else can give you a more complete translation.

                Very cool photo with a lot of history.

                    No problem, but you definitely need someone with better German skills to translate the last part as I'm not sure it says he was missing, though it does say something about February 1946.

                    The other part says Hans was a machine gunner and goes on to talk about his soldierly qualities and physical characteristices.

                      Hans was born in Oberstetten...Feldpostnr. 56954
                      .he went missing 17.6.44 at Park ????? near Fontenay, 16km west from ????. After a Attack from a british Tank and Artillery Fire. A Granade is believed to have exploded 1m next to him. He is said to be wounded....??????? (The very last bid i cannot decipher)

                      Very nice photos...but just to make sure I would suggest to post the photo of Hans in the WAF Photo section. Without being a expert on photos, i always get a bad feeling when I see photos with a snow white front border and not really best contrast but a very yellow/brown-ish reverse..

                        The FPn° 56954 matches for 15. Kompanie/Panzergrenadier-Regiment 26 /12. SS-Panzerdivision.
                        It was the regimental reco compagny, but i'm surprised by the use of the word "Kradschützen", as in 1944 its normal designation would have been "Aufklarüngs" Kp.
                        Same for the designation "12.SS.Pz.Gren.Div." on pic in #6, as in 1944, its official name was "12. SS-Panzer-Division "Hitlerjugend" since october 30th, 1943.
                        Some paper specialists or reco afficionados (like Bob Edwards) could certainly tell you more about those points.

                            Here's some base information I have on Franz Teis.


                            SS Sturmann Franz Teis served in 2/SS Panzer Grenadier Rgt 2 of the Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler. Firstly performing attachment duty with the 12th SS Hitler Jugend on the Normandy Invasion Front before returning to the LAH and seeing action in the Eiffel and ending the war in Austria.

                              The front and back of photographic paper, has totally different qualities. It is like two different papers.
