TANKER - Thanks for the kind words. From the photos provided, I'm on board that it's original. But I would still like to see clearer photos of the Himmler signature, to understand why it looks so funky, like there are pockmarks or damage, or maybe just oxidation. Like I said, I think its a good ring, and the questionable appearance is likely just the photography. But if I were going to buy a ring like this, I would like to see what I'm buying.

Its a ground find and the Himmler signature is very worn, but unfortunately I won't be taking more images of signature, purely for the reason that I don't want any forger trying to reproduce the characteristics of this special ring..
Sorry..but that's the way it is..
Cheers

The recipient's name has already been shown on the WAF forum, so how exactly does showing a "worn" Himmler signature help fakers in any way, when they can see any number of original examples published on this and other forums? And if fakers ARE able to duplicate such engraving, then how do you know THIS, or ANY TK ring is original? Because the engraving almost ALWAYS holds the key, because it's the hardest nut to crack for fakers. Engraving is an old-world skill, and you need the correct tools and experience. As for the ring, I'm almost positive it's original, so that naturally begs the question, "Why do the TK Ring collectors on WAF all show their rings in glorious detail, but this one's a big secret?" A suspicious person, not ME of course, might get the mistaken impression there's something wrong with the ring in that area, but they're obviously paranoid miscreants, so I wouldn't listen to them.
PS: Since the Himmler name is so faint, is it possible that someone tried to re-tool the "l" in Himmler? If not, what is that noticeable "loop" at the top of the "l"?Last edited by sgstandard; 02-19-2015, 03:02 PM.

As for paranoid miscreants..not my issue

I totally agree! Documenting and showing an original ring is the one sure way it won't get faked! Since the poster has iron clad proof it is original, I don't see why he has a problem with posting nice clear pics. WHen one doesn't show the clear pics, it does tend to start the speculation that something isn't quite right.
In the end, it is the poster's ring and if they can't or don't want to show/document such a historical item, we can't force them.

What happens 10 years from now, when the ring changes hands, and some damn fool stupidly photographs that signature? Then the cat's out of the bag, and then it's too late. I'm all about solutions, so if it was MY ring, I'd just file off the Himmler signature completely, and that way it could NEVER be copied.

Cool. A normal scratch or ding doesn't detract from the appearance or value, IMO. I was only concerned that someone may have tried to embellish the engraving in the area I mentioned. I might add - even though you posted a small pic (Post #16) of the recipient's name, you captured the exact right angle to show the wonderful engraving that original rings have. I was able to discern from just that one photo it's an original. Thanks for clarifying. Sorry for giving you a hard time. Best regards.
