1944 leather SS Panzer tunic w/ Hitler Coathanger, possibly NSKK /kriegsmarine?

    Hi all,

I have an interesting tunic here and would love to hear some opinions on it. I was given this by a friend and have been trying to figure out its exact origin. It was purchased in the early 1990's with another identical (but far more worn) leather tunic which with the same hanger that sold some time ago. The tunic has an original coat hanger with the writing "Carl schopf, Karlsruhe Adolf Hitlerplatz". Both the tunic and jacket have stampings dating them to 1944 with size info and manufactures marks, with the pants having some sort of size tag still in them. Both show honest signs of wear. While I am certain that both the jacket and pants are original, I am unsure if the eagle is a fake that was added later to increase value. The pink panzer tabs look ok from what I can see- any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

I would have concerns that the eagle does not match the wear on the rest of the jacket. IMO, it was added much later. I can not speak on the boards.

The eagle appears to be a very nice original.
Was the eagle on it when you got it ?
The uniform if proven real would be a very rare piece
      Fingers crossed ....
      Regards

Over the course of 37 years I have seen many of these sets, mostly unissued still having the same tags attached . The ones I have seen are always issued without insignia and in unissued condition . Only years later they began to accumulate insignia.

Since your set appears unissued also. I would have to assume the insignia was added later by a collector or dealer.

Of course , it's possible to have a set with wartime sewn insignia, but I dont believe you will see it with the tags still attached in unissued condition. Unlike SS wool tunics coming from the factory with sleeve eagles .

I think these were originally kriegsmarine items just like the u boat leathers and leather overalls later adopted or worn by heer and SS panzer troops

I have to edit, that I looked at your photos more closely and it looks like your tunic has some wear to it. Even though the papar tags are still attached.

Original tunic and trousers. Same style as used by some KdK crews.

Tag is on the pants? Pants looked unused versus the jacket. Both good, but the eagle looks brand new. Is there any trace of an eagle around the one that's on there now?

Never heard of leather overalls worn by panzer soldiers (only named so by dealers to raise more funds...) - any proof of this?

                          Original

IMO original panzer ( is it really panzer , or also maybe motor cyclist as mentioned before..) set, also eagle and shoulder boards.

                          Can't say it's wartime configuration.

But all seems to be original and wartime OK IMO.

it was not manufactured with that elastic or any other elastic along the bottom hem. I personally do not think that was wartime added either, but would have to see it to be more confident. I feel as the others about the insignia. I also do not care at all for the boards.

There are a few variations on these. There are the NSKK ones that are more often brown leathers , I have a nice set like that myself, and then there are the E-Boot versions like this set, IMO that is.
They (the E-Boot versions) were worn by Panzer troops and I have several original photos showing them in use in the war. One pic even has two men in the same photo wearing them, both officers of course.
