Andi.,,, Well I would love to see a period photo of the piece in question,,or any type of documentation.!!

When you collect a long time you learn to ignore stories from Vets sometimes. Many were setting up souvenir businesses even before the war was over! The piece must stand on its own..

"Pieces that are recognized by the majority of collectors and experts as original, can be only declared as such".

In my opinion that is a dangerous way to think and collect! They can only be declared as 'maybe' or 'authentic by some'...

It's like the old diggers stories I used to hear in the 90s.. One guy will lie and say he dug it up himself,,the friend will swear he was right there,,another will say yes he's had one for many years... Andi my friend,,all that does not make it authentic...

I'll bow out of this now. As I always say,,if you are happy with the piece you bought then what can be better!, Enjoy them...,G.

Just a counter question a little more on the facts: Who are you to defend those fakes when you don´t even know the differences in main german scripts of that time and their main features?
Please explain why you thought that script on the fork would be Sütterlin instead you saw that it is gothic in truth?

Finally this is a senseless debate when led on different levels. I have no horse in this race just want to prevent honest collectors from spending their hard earned money to fakes and fakers. Take it or leave it.

@Bob Hritz: Many thanks for this link I already was looking for! This additionally clearly proofs that the "u" in the gothic script was written WITHOUT a stroke. When it is written with kind of double qotes as "ü" -which naturally exists- ít is a different letter, it has a total OTHER sound and another meaning therefore this leads to "Wewelsbürg" instead of Wewelsburg.

The stroke above the "u" in the Sütterlin writing script just had the function to dstinguish the "u" and the "n" or the "e", which did look quite eaqual, especially in a slobby hand writing. It was not necessary in the gothic script because the gothic script was much more exactly in appearance and the "n", the "u" and the "e" have totally different appearance in the gothic script.

      Greetings, daggers.

            Hi,

"Pieces that are recognized by the majority of collectors and experts as original, can be only declared as such".

Wow, do you know how many fakes fooled people for decades with such assumption ?
The Croix de Guerre Légionnaire (LVF French War Cross), amongst dozen of other items, is the best example that you always have to work, even if 99% of the other collectors are claiming the opposite.

            See You

              Hi Vince,
Please do not use this sentence to me, but that's exactly what I experience again and again. I could name a few examples regarding., but I think you know that too !!
              Exceptions prove the rule !!

              Best Andi
