    SS Obersturmbannfuhrer shoulder board

    Hello Guys.

Just received a grouping from an older collection. This was labeled as an Obersturmbannfuhrer shoulderboard.

    I shot two quick pictures.

How does this look? Are more pictures required?

If real, please provide some estimate of value as it's destined for the estand if authentic.

    Thank you and good collecting!

      Hello William

If J was the potential buyer,

J would always fear that this was a Heer-shoulderboard "upgraded" to W-SS.

      Does the back glow ?

J think better shots from the back is needed ?

      best Jens

The back (black wool) won't glow whether it's original or not--black wool doesn't react to UV. Only the white fabric/core fabric could conceivably glow. If it's an original Heer board upgraded, it would be hard to tell except by the construction and materials of the underlay.

The black backing would be bottle-green for Heer and if dyed would almost certainly glow and it would be difficult not to dye the waffenfarbe too. It's that and the centres of the silver 'cords' you want to blacklight for originality...looks good to me though for what that's worth.

          Cheers,Ian.

Well, Jm no expert on wool. However J have bought a pair of ( upgraded /copy) of obersturmbannführer on this forum. The dead give-away was that they were GLOWING on the backside ( wool??).
            He did take them back!

Another way of detecting these is if the underlay look a lot newer than the cords.

On the other hand J have seen original wartime upgraded Sturmbannführer-boards probably because the tailor didnt have them in W-SS-issue.
