Value on an SS marked blanket

    Hello forum..

I saw this item... and took some quick photos with my camera phone.

the guy claims his father brought it back from the war... and that it came from an SS officers barracks in Dachau.

just BS, or did they make things like this? He wants crazy money for it right now, but open to offers.... and I said I will get back with him.

    value?

    thank you Robert

I think the rarely-encountered (and disputed by many) original is in this general style, with the red and blue stripe and RZM tag in the corner, but is that really a gigantic, crookedly-stitched SS/RZM code or is it some sort of optical illusion? Is it chain-stitched?

Only a better man than me could tell you if that RZM code relates to a blanket manufacturer.

For what it's worth: I like it and am inclined to consider it good. Base blanket itself is original, no doubt.

Excuse me sir, but with all due respect what is your opinion based upon? Please show me one authentic example where the Reichszeugmeisterei sowed it's trademark and the manufacture code directly onto an item rather than using some sort of tag or another known method. Seriously, you may well be inclined to consider it good, but unless you have evidence of that or are willing to provide the financial means for the inquiring member, it would probably be best if you refrained from making such a comment. Does nobody realize how "advice" with absolutely no merit behind it whatsoever can hurt the novice collector? It's difficult enough collecting SS material as it is, members don't need someone blatantly guessing whether a item is real or not too.

the blanket might be good but all those markings and label
                      scream BOGUS...

I would love to see a close up of the RF-SS tag.

Advice with no merit? A blatant guess??? I collect original wartime German blankets. Do you?

Blankets were marked in many ways. The markings could be large and they could be sloppily applied. Here's one from the Reichsarbeitsdienst with a crudely applied huge RAD property mark, and a wartime photo of Heer troops using this same blanket.

Cloth used for the production of political uniforms was often RZM marked every few feet. Clearly, in such a case, the RZM applied its trademark directly to a cloth item without using a tag. Similarly, with (for one example) metal items such as party badges the RZM trademark and manufacturer code was added as an integral part of the manufacturing process. Why would it necessarily be different with a blanket?

I've seen one like this before. As with the example above, there is no doubt the blanket itself is original pre-war issue.
