Visor Cap Skull - late Assmann

    Hi guys,
I just came across this metal (zink) skull with three side mounted prongs. I have heard about those skulls and I wanted to ask if thats one of those Assmann attributed late war skulls?
    Thank you in advance!
    Cheers

These are still quite controversial to many collectors and are one of the few variations that, imo, remain unresolved. As far as the overall opinion, it seems to be about 50/50. Either way, you probably should not expect to get as much for it as you would for other well established variations. I still have strong doubts about these personally, due to the many inconsistancies that I have observed between these and the typical Assmann skulls. Some will disagree, but the ones I have seen sell recently have sold for around $150.00 - $200.00.
I found my two examples for $15.00 each, back when they were extremely plentiful and I have passed on others for similar prices Only a few years ago.

Sorry, but this is the best advice that I can offer at this time.

My biggest concern is that they have no Assmann & Söhne markings. Assmann put their mark on everything they made - even small things like buttons - which is the only way we know those items were made by Assmann.

I'm still to be convinced these are authentic - and worth more than $15.00 each.

I agree. NOW...........what about pips that have similar prongs???? I've never liked those either - are those kind of pips ever real?

              Probably period made but.....

IMO ....Better to find a good deal on ges gesch zinker when looking to add an assmann skull to the collection.

I've never liked the look of this particular TKs, just a matter of personal preference I guess...
I would buy marked examples for my collection...

To give balance to this thread: I like them
Similair in construction as one piece stamped heer, LW eagles, Pz skulls, pips.
And have been found in vet bringback (John T.)

If anybody can show/sell them to me for 15 usd you're welcome!
On the other side 150-200 is way overpriced!

Yes, there were certainly original panzer collar tab skulls made of steel that had similar prongs. I have gotten these from vets myself. However, the prongs construction was much better on those and they are very sharp unlike the ones on these skulls. Still, it is the details such as the teeth and the bones, etc. That cause me the most concern.
